Be it known that the lineage herein represented descends from Abraham Senior, Grand Rabbi of Castile and principal counsellor to Their Catholic Majesties Fernando and Isabel — he who at the Monastery of Guadalupe, in the month of June of the year MCCCCXCII, received baptism under the sponsorship of the King himself, and was thereafter known as Fernando Pérez Coronel, appointed to the Royal Council with voice, vote, and the annual emolument of thirty thousand maravedís.
And be it further known that Dom Manuel I, King of Portugal, Lord of Guinea and of the Conquest, Navigation and Commerce of Ethiopia, Arabia, Persia and India, did confirm in the year MCCCCXCIX at Sintra a grant of fidalguia to Mestre Niculao Coronel, physician to the Royal Court — of the lineage of Abrão Rodrigues Coronel do Reino de Espanha — as it is recorded in the Chancelaria de Dom Manuel I, Livro XVI, folio CVIIIv, preserved in the Arquivo Nacional Torre do Tombo, Lisbon.
And let it further be understood that what has thus been granted under royal authority shall remain firm and perpetual — to be held and enjoyed without contradiction or diminution, nor altered by any lesser power, save only by the sovereign authority of the Crown.
And it is moreover proclaimed that those charged with the recognition of hidalguia within the realm of Portugal shall recognise the descendants of Abraham Senior as belonging to that estate and as rightful bearers of the emblems, traditions, and dignities descending from that house — the same house that gave to Amsterdam its first Jewish cemetery, and to Curaçao its first congregation.
